1. Who this applies to

This Volunteer Policy applies to anyone who applies for or holds a volunteer role with LearnSpace — subject tutors, student mentors, and college student volunteers. It covers the application and screening process, what's expected of you while volunteering, and how volunteer status can end. It works alongside, not instead of, our Terms of Use and Child Safety Policy — please read those too, since the conduct and communication rules that apply whenever you're interacting with a student live there.

2. Application and background check

  • All volunteer applications are reviewed by a program teacher before approval.
  • A background check is required for any role with direct student contact, at no cost to you. By submitting your application, you authorize LearnSpace to initiate this check.
  • You'll be asked to list at least one credential, certification, or relevant accomplishment as part of setting up your tutor profile — a profile cannot be approved without this.
  • We aim to review applications within 1–2 business days, though background check turnaround can take longer and is outside our control.
  • Approval is at the program teacher's discretion. LearnSpace is not obligated to approve any application.

3. While you're volunteering

  • Respond to assigned students in a reasonably timely manner — students and parents are counting on consistency.
  • Keep all communication with students inside the Platform's own messaging tools, per the Child Safety Policy.
  • Give feedback that is constructive, encouraging, and appropriate for the student's age and grade level.
  • Represent yourself accurately — your listed credentials, subjects, and grade range should reflect what you're actually qualified and available to teach.
  • Do not use your volunteer role to solicit students or families for outside, paid tutoring arrangements.

4. Confidentiality

As a volunteer, you may see a student's name, grade, assignments, and grades. You will not be given a student's home address, school address, emergency contact information, or parent contact details — that information is restricted to program administrators. Any student information you do have access to is confidential and may only be used to carry out your volunteer role.

5. No compensation

Volunteer roles are unpaid. LearnSpace does not process payments, reimburse expenses, or guarantee any minimum number of assigned students. If you're interested in a paid tutoring role instead, that's a separate track with its own profile settings.

6. Ending your volunteer status

You may step back from volunteering at any time by contacting us. LearnSpace may suspend or remove volunteer status at any time, including for a substantiated Child Safety Policy violation, providing inaccurate credentials, or extended unresponsiveness to assigned students — consistent with the consequences described in the Child Safety Policy.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this Volunteer Policy from time to time, posting the revised version on this page with a new effective date. Continuing to volunteer after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
